Support Services and Partnerships
Support Services & Specialist Programs
At Mooroopna North Primary School, we are committed to providing our students with access to professional allied health services that support their learning, development, and overall wellbeing. Through our strong partnership with the Going Rural Health Initiative, we welcome university-trained allied health students to work directly with our students, ensuring they receive specialised support in a familiar and accessible environment.
This initiative, funded by Going Rural Health, brings a range of Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Audiology, and other allied health services to our school as they become available. These services help address developmental, communication, and sensory needs while also providing valuable assistance to families.
Going Rural Health Initiative – OT, Speech, Audiology & More
Through our collaboration with Going Rural Health, we offer a range of student-led allied health services that continue to expand based on availability.
Occupational Therapy (OT) Support
OT students work with our students to:
-
Develop fine and gross motor skills – Supporting handwriting, coordination, balance, and physical confidence.
-
Assist with sensory processing – Helping students regulate their sensory responses for better focus and engagement in class.
-
Teach self-regulation strategies – Supporting students in managing emotions, attention, and behaviour to build independence and resilience.
Speech Pathology Support
Speech Pathology students provide assistance in:
-
Speech and language development – Helping students with articulation, fluency, and comprehension.
-
Literacy and communication skills – Enhancing vocabulary, reading confidence, and verbal expression.
-
Social communication and confidence – Assisting students in expressing their thoughts clearly and interacting effectively with peers.
-
Supporting teachers – Providing strategies to help integrate speech and language development into everyday learning.
Audiology Support
Through Going Rural Health, Audiology students assist by:
-
Conducting hearing screenings to identify potential hearing concerns.
-
Providing classroom recommendations for students who need hearing support.
-
Referring families for further assessment to ensure timely intervention and care.
Additional Allied Health Services
Beyond OT, Speech, and Audiology, we also work with many more allied health professionals as they become available through Going Rural Health and other partnerships. These may include:
-
Physiotherapy – Supporting students with movement difficulties, posture, and coordination.
-
Psychology & Wellbeing Services – Providing guidance on emotional regulation, social skills, and mental health strategies.
-
Behavioural Support – Helping students develop positive behaviour strategies and self-regulation techniques.
-
Dietitian & Nutrition Support – Educating students on healthy eating habits to support their wellbeing and learning.
We are continuously working to expand our allied health partnerships so that more students can benefit from professional support tailored to their individual needs.
Paediatric Support & Family Assistance
While we do not have a paediatrician on-site, our school funds and participates in a paediatric support initiative that helps families access developmental and medical support for students with additional needs. This initiative allows us to:
-
Connect families with paediatric specialists for in-depth assessments.
-
Work closely with paediatricians and allied health professionals to ensure school-based strategies align with medical recommendations.
-
Support families in navigating services to ensure their child receives consistent and comprehensive care.
This holistic approach ensures that students receive the best possible support through a collaborative partnership between health professionals, educators, and families.
